White Star

Story

In summer 2017 the motor yacht White Star departed Falmouth following her 9-month refit at Pendennis. The refit included a stern extension which increased her LOA from 47m to 49.9m, providing additional external space on the main deck and swim platforms as well as allowing for the inclusion of a new watersports store in the lazarette. Pendennis also remodelled the sun and sky decks, including installing a new communications mast, creating an entirely new deck from the previously unused coach roof space. This additional 55m2 of exterior space was complemented by custom-built fitted furniture made by Pendennis’ in-house joinery team.

All remodelling works were undertaken in conjunction with ABS surveys for modification works, taking the vessel from 499GRT to 528GRT. Together with ships annual and docking surveys, engineering and electrical works consisted of a major service to the main engines and generators, replacement of the AC chiller plant, new deep-sea seals, a new engine room fire suppression system, upgrades to the black and grey systems including larger holding tanks, with new switchboards, power management system and alarms and monitoring systems also incorporated. A Lutron controlled LED lighting system replaced the old halogen lighting, resulting in significant power savings.

Measures undertaken to improve vibration levels on board included main engine feet replacement, shaft realignment, remounting of engine exhausts and engine room ventilation fans, and full removal and replacement of engine room insulation to achieve a reduction in acoustic noise transfer prior to install of Bondal engine room panels. The net result of these works resulted in significant reductions in noise and vibration levels, thereby dramatically enhancing the guest experience.

In addition to refit work on White Star’s technical areas, the sky lounge was stripped back to bare structure and rebuilt to a new design developed between Pendennis’ in-house design team and the Owners to suit their exacting requirements. New teak decks throughout all levels, complemented by a full exterior repaint that changed the yacht’s hull from blue to white, left White Star dramatically reborn at the end of her refit.

Since her departure from Falmouth White Star has received continued support from the Pendennis team in Vilanova. Most recently she departed in July 2020 after a period of works including removal and replacement of both gearboxes for factory reconditioning, a generator rebuild, general paint work repairs, a new galley sub sole and floor covering and many smaller engineering and joinery works.
