Celebrating 95 years of Marala - a timeless classic restored

This year marks the 95th anniversary of the remarkable classic motor yacht Marala - a rare survivor from the golden age of yachting and a true testament to enduring design and heritage. Built by Camper & Nicholsons in 1931, Marala has led an extraordinary life, from elegant cruising to wartime service and Hollywood-era glamour, hosting guests such as Salvador Dalí and Frank Sinatra along the way.

When Marala came to market for the first time in over 50 years, her new owner recognised a rare opportunity to preserve her legacy for generations to come. Brought to Pendennis in 2019, she underwent an extensive, sympathetic restoration that celebrated both her historic character and her future potential.

Over more than two years in Pendennis’ inner dry dock, the restoration team renewed large sections of her hull steelwork, upgraded domestic and electrical systems, and restored her original engines - all while honouring the yacht’s 1930s spirit. Much of Marala’s original timber was carefully retained, and amendments to her profile helped undo later modifications to return her closer to her original lines.

London-based Muza Lab collaborated on a new interior design that draws on Marala’s fascinating heritage - from art-deco flair to nods to her varied past, creating spaces that feel both historically resonant and beautifully refined.

Now, nearly a century after her launch, Marala continues to captivate with her elegance, character and story - a beautifully restored classic that bridges the past and present. Read more about her restoration and legacy here.

In September 2025, Pendennis had the pleasure of welcoming Jack Haines, Reviews Director at YachtBuyer onboard Marala at the Monaco Yacht Show - where she made her industry debut. Watch the full video tour below.
