Adela's Refit at Pendennis Vilanova - a discussion with her Captain

For over 15 years, Captain Greg Perkins has led Adela through countless nautical miles. His relationship with Pendennis Shipyard dates back even further—he first visited the Falmouth yard in 1989, and since then, he’s returned with multiple vessels. So when Pendennis expanded into Vilanova, it was a natural transition.

"We've been coming back to Vilanova almost every year since Pendennis took over. It’s a great location, and they have everything we need" Greg explains.

This time, the refit was extensive. "We had a full paint job, a major engine rebuild sent to Holland, overhauled the generators, and installed a new switchboard—the heart of the boat. It was an intense three to four months, but the results speak for themselves."

Pendennis Vilanova provides Captains with the flexibility to either self-manage their projects or work with a dedicated Pendennis Project Manager. "We had daily meetings to plan our direction, and the team was excellent." says Greg. "There’s a great network of skilled contractors here, and being on the mainland, parts and logistics are easy to manage."

For the crew, Vilanova is an excellent base. "The crew really enjoys it here—nice restaurants, good gyms, and even the occasional chance to go surfing. Plus, Barcelona is just 30 minutes away."

Over the last few years with Pendennis' investment, the yard has undergone continuous improvements. "The yard has transformed—new concrete, paint sheds, and it's still evolving," Greg notes.

With a strong mix of technical capability, location advantages, and an enjoyable crew environment, Pendennis Vilanova continues to be the go-to destination for Adela’s refits—and for Captains looking for reliability and expertise in the Mediterranean.

After her refit Adela departed Pendennis Vilanova and headed to the Caribbean, where she competed in the Antigua Superyacht Challenge and St Barths Bucket Regatta. In Antigua Adela achieved 1st place in the Half Round the Island Race, and she was victorious in the Privateers class. In St Barth's Adela came in at 2nd place. It's always a joy to support the Pendennis fleet across the globe.

Adela had a full paint job during her refit. Pendennis Vilanova collaborated with Pinmar to complete this. Part of the process included a refresh of her gold leaf detail, which was completed by Julian Goldbolt.
