m5 Stern Extension installed

m5's refit will see the installation of a new 3m stern extension with naval architecture by Mirabella V’s original designers Ron Holland Design. The new composite stern is now in place with the post-cure recently completed. In conjunction with this a significant amount of new open deck area has been added aft of the flybridge which is also undergoing remodelling. Once completed, these new areas will add a significant amount of flexible social space to the exterior of m5 as shown in this 3D rendering provided by Ron Holland Design.

Fair Lady undergoes refit in Palma

This beautiful classic 1920s motor yacht has remained a loyal visitor to Pendennis with refit visits in 1996, 2000 and 2006. Fair Lady recently arrived at Pendennis Palma for a 6 month winter refit. Work will include a 5 year MCA LY1 survey, a full overhaul of her systems and standing rigging.

Teleost visits Pendennis for a second refit

The 49m De Voogt designed motor yacht Teleost arrived in Falmouth early October to commence a six month refit. She was a previous visitor to the UK facility in 2008, and will now be undergoing her 5-year survey as well as a substantial upgrade to her interiors.

SY Gloria Completes Refit

A refit of the Jongert built Gloria was completed this month with works including complete re-decking with deck hardware stripped and serviced, leaving Gloria’s topside as good as new. Her schooner rig was also completely overhauled, with new standing rigging and fore rig installed alongside a repaint of the main mast. Gloria was re-launched early October and will shortly be making her way to the Mediterranean for the winter season.

Pendennis Wins Training Award

Pendennis is delighted that the company was named South West Winner in the Large Employer of the Year award run by the National Apprenticeship Service. Our Joinery Manager and ex. apprentice Tristan Jones, was also named as a South West Finalist in the Apprentice Champion of the Year Award, and awarded a judges commendation at the presentation ceremony.

Pendennis' recent business success and growth has been impressive and as such as the company was ranked at number 114 in the Sunday Times 2012 International Track 200 with a 37% yearly growth rate.

Two finalists confirmed in ISS Awards

Each year ISS presents its Design and Leadership Awards, which recognize individuals and companies for their expertise, leadership and dedication to raising the standards of design, construction, maintenance, repair and operation of large yachts. Hemisphere has been confirmed as a finalist in the Sailing Yacht 40m+ category, and Heavenly Daze is competing for the refit award. The yachts entered are reviewed and voted for by members of the ISS, so to be shortlisted for Hemisphere and Heavenly Daze is testament to the respect for Pendennis' work from within our own industry. The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony held in Fort Lauderdale on 25th October, following on from the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show.

Apprentices graduate

This year's 14 final year graduates from the Pendennis General Apprenticeship Scheme were honoured at Pendennis' annual awards ceremony recently. The apprentices started the scheme in 2008 and have worked hard to successfully complete the course and achieve the high standards associated with the scheme. In recognition of their high level of training four final-year students have been chosen to participate in the week-long final appraisal for the annual Worshipful Company of Shipwrights Queens Silver Medal.

Happy Birthday Pendennis Palma

The Pendennis facility, based at STP in Palma de Mallorca, has enjoyed a busy year since the official launch in July 2011. The facility provides a convenient refit centre for yachts based in the Mediterranean.

Over 8 refits have already been completed, including Pendennis built Nostromo (pictured left), works on the 55m Adela, the 38m Jongert sailing yacht Gloria, 45m Tugatsu and the Perini Navi Andromeda La Dea.

The facility also has several bookings already confirmed for this winter including Fair Lady, who has long history with Pendennis, first visiting the Falmouth facility in 1996, then consequently in 2000 and 2006.

Pendennis welcomes new apprentices

Pendennis has recently welcomed 14 new recruits to our four-year award winning scheme. We are also delighted that four final-year apprentices are enjoying industry recognition, having been selected to attend the final assessment week for the Worshipful Company of Shipwrights Queen's Silver Medal (won by a Pendennis apprentice in 2010).

Their recognition is testament to the success of the scheme in training staff to an exceptionally high standard, thereby continually expanding our quality workforce in all trade areas.

Visit Pendennis at Monaco Yacht Show

The Monaco Yacht Show, running from 19th -22nd September, is considered the most prestigious pleasure boat show in the world with the exhibition of 500 major companies in the luxury yachting and a hundred super and megayachts afloat. Pendennis will be exhibiting at our usual stand, QT17. We look forward to seeing you there!

Mariette wins the Pendennis Cup

The 2012 Pendennis Cup provided plenty of drama throughout the week, with impressive tactics from all competitors. On the final day, Saturday 7th, all was still to play for with a battle between Unfurled and Mariette for the Pendennis Cup honours and Firebrand and Mikado fighting in the smaller Little Dennis Fleet. It was Mariette that was awarded the Pendennis Cup as well as the trophy for the St Petroc Traditional Class, with Firebrand winning Class 2. A full report can be found on the Pendennis Cup website.

Masquerade of Sole reborn

Alongside this week's Pendennis Cup, Pendennis is also celebrating completion of a major refit of the Feadship, Masquerade of Sole. With the yacht originally built in 1983 the refit objective was to completely transform the vessel into one reflective of modern design and technology and 5m longer. The yacht undertook a series of motor trials in Falmouth Bay following her re-launch in May as "A2", bringing to a close her intensive refit period in the yard.

Hemisphere Scoops 2 Awards

Last week the winners of the 2012 ShowBoats Design Awards were announced in front of a VIP audience of superyacht owners and the industry's leading creative talents from around the world. The Pendennis built sailing catamaran Hemisphere was presented with two 'Golden Neptunes': The Interior Design Award and Interior Layout Award, Sailing Yachts.

Pendennis Cup confirms fleet

The Pendennis Cup fleet has been confirmed at 13 yachts: Adela (55.5m), Athos (61.2m), Bare Necessities (24.8m), Bequia (27.6m), Breakaway(21.34m), Eleonora (49.5m), Firebrand (13.11m), Mariette (42m), Mariquita (38m), Mikado (12.5m), Tomahawk (14.8m), Unfurled (34m) and Velacarina (26m).

These will be separated into three classes with the each day taking the format of a pursuit race with staggered start times allocated base on IRC ratings. On Tuesday 3rd, Wednesday 4th, Friday 6th and Saturday 7th the racing yachts will leave Port Pendennis Marina from 9:30am ready for the start at 11:30am, with the fleet returning to the marina 3:00pm onwards. Pendennis yachts compete for ShowBoats Design Award

Following the shortlisting of three recent Pendennis' new build projects in the World Superyacht Awards, both Akalam and Hemisphere have been named as finalists in the ShowBoat Design Awards. The winners of the Golden Neptunes will be announced in Monaco on the 22nd June. Pendennis are proud to be sponsors of the awards and will have a team attending the event.

Judges Commendation in World Superyacht Awards

Following the awards ceremony in Istanbul this past weekend, Pendennis is delighted to announce that the sailing catamaran Hemisphere was awarded a Judges Commendation in the 'Sailing Yacht 40m+' category. This success is testament to the successful collaboration between Pendennis Shipyard, with Van Peteghem Lauriot Prevost as Naval Architects and Interior Design company Michael Leach Design.

Heavenly Daze completes refit

The 1972 Feadship Heavenly Daze recently left Falmouth following her 6 month winter refit, with the main focus being an interior restyle by Dutch design company Wetzel Brown. The refit also included a RINA annual survey, general maintenance works with isolated deck, hull and tank repairs, and top side repaint. The bridge electronics also received a full upgrade alongside an overhaul of her steering system and stabilizers.

m5's record breaking mast removed

In the early hours of Friday morning a team of 40 experts used four cranes to de-step the world's largest mast from m5 (ex. Mirabella 5). The massive mast, weighing over 45tonnes and with a length of 89m, took over 8 hours to detach and place on the hard at A&P Falmouth's Queen's wharf in Falmouth. The complex operation was coordinated by Marine Results, who installed the mast when the yacht was originally built in 2004.

Pendennis to exhibit at Antibes

Pendennis will once again have a presence at the Antibes Yacht Show, 12-15 April. Representatives from Pendennis, UK and the new Pendennis Palma facility will be based at Stand B432 in the refit area of the Bastion St Jaume marquee. We look forward to seeing you there.

Mirabella V arrives at Pendennis

The world's largest sloop-rigged sailing yacht, m5 (previously known as Mirabella V) arrived at Pendennis this weekend ahead of her substantial one year refit by Pendennis Plus in Falmouth. Works will include a major technical and engineering overhaul and full interior redesign by Redman Whiteley Dixon. A 3m stern extension will be managed by Naval Architects Ron Holland Design, who were the original designers when the vessel was built in the UK in 2004.

MY Virginian Refit completed

Pendennis Plus has just completed a refit of the 62.23m Feadship MY Virginian. Built in 1990, the yacht arrived at Pendennis at the beginning of November 2011. The works undertaken included general maintenance work, minor interior modifications and an annual survey alongside a full topside repaint and installation of new Naiad Zero Speed stabilisers.

Pendennis Yachts to attend St Barth's Bucket

With one of the largest superyacht fleets (40 plus yachts) of the year gearing up to descend on St Barths next month the stage is set for another incredible St Barths Bucket - 22nd - 25th March. Pendennis is proud to once again be supporting this much loved industry event and will have both Adela and Rebecca competing, flying the Pendennis flag of excellence. Both yachts are seasoned competitors at the regatta. Several members of the Pendennis team will be in attendance supporting their efforts.

Apprenticeship Scheme open evening

National Apprenticeship Week 2012 took place from 6th - 10th February. Pendennis' award winning apprenticeship programme has been running for over 13 years and as such Pendennis was proud to showcase the scheme. Events included a 'back to the shop floor' initiative for which Toby Allies, Director of Sales and Marketing, spent a morning working as part of the engineering team. Pendennis also hosted two open evenings welcoming over 400 potential new recruits and their families to the yard.

Dona Amélia completes refit

The classic 1929 gentleman's motor yacht Dona Amélia, recently departed Falmouth after completion of a four-month refit at Pendennis. Works included routine maintenance (engineering survey, service and renovation of her original 1928 Krupp Germania Werft main Engines, overhaul of her generators, AC, water makers, thrusters, hydraulics, windlass). At 71m she is the largest yacht to undergo a refit at Pendennis in their 23 year history.
